About the Isle of Bute
Bute is a small island (15 x 5 miles) in Scotland’s Firth of Clyde. It’s one of the easiest islands to reach with direct train services from Glasgow to the mainland ferry terminus and then a short 35min crossing to the island. Ferries run every 45mins and there is no need to book.
You can also reach the island from the north end via the very short ferry crossing (300m) at Colintraive. The road to Colintraive from Glasgow takes you through some of the most beautiful scenery in Argyll.
Details of Ferry times can be had here :
Wemyss Bay to Rothesay and Colintraive to Bute
Once on the island there are lots of things to do and see, including Golf (3 courses), fly fishing on Loch Fad or exploring the fabulous Mountstuart House and Gardens or Rothesay Castle.
Rothesay is a town of about 6500 people so there are plenty of facilities including supermarkets, cafes, restaurants and lots of pubs.
In may the island hosts a very popular Jazz festival but book early beacuse the island is packed that weekend.
Or you can just relax and enjoy the slower pace of life on our wonderful island.
